What Are You Eating?

June 22nd, 2008 by sheileagheike

By Loren Bailey What are you eating? High fattening foods (even only once a day) can destroy any weight loss that may have occurred during your low fat eating. Fast foods, fried foods, foods and sodas high in sugar are detrimental to weight loss- Avoid them! Even if you only eat these kinds of foods once a day, they can really hinder weight loss efforts. Try to eat well-balanced meals with protein, carbohydrates and a small amount of fats. One good example would be: 1) Protein- a chicken breast or fillet of fish, 2) Carbohydrates/Fat- a small salad with vinegar and olive oil (the oil will be your fat for the meal) 3) Carbohydrates- a small baked potato or a serving of rice (either should be plain- no butter!).Meal Replacement Powders (MRP) such as Met-Rx, MyoPlex, Atkins Shakes, Balance 40-30-30, Ultramet or Complete Protein Diet are excellent fast meals, or snacks, that are effective when added to your eating plan. (All of which are carried by MaxLabs). MRPs are an excellent way to get a high protein, low calorie meal into your diet once or twice a day. This will keep you from eating fattening foods that hinder weight loss. (Plus these products yield many vitamins and minerals). I eat low fat foods at the restaurants I visit. Why is this bad? An example of how normal food is bad, bad, bad! You proceed to your favorite restaurant for: a salad with dressing, no fat pasta with sauce, a cola, and some bread! First, the dressing from the salad is usually 100% fat so there is 15 grams of fat. Second, the pasta is easily stored as fat because it is a starchy carbohydrate. (Starchy carbohydrates are easily stored as fat unless you are on a serious exercise program). Should we mention the sauce that was on the pasta (mostly fat as well- lets store that on the hips!)? The bread well, you guessed it, high-glycemic foods such as this are hard to burn off too! That cola you drank (depending on the size) had anywhere from 40 grams to 100 grams of sugar (which almost always turns to fat if not burned off with exercise). Did you have refills? CONCLUSION: You can see how what most people view as eating low fat, can be detrimental to a diet! When are you eating? Do you eat more at night or during the day? If you eat at night right before bed, you have a greater tendency to store that food as fat! Try to eat your biggest meal at breakfast, a medium meal at lunch and a light dinner. Drink MRPs in between meals or as meals by themselves. Try not to eat within 3 hours of the time you go to bed. The metabolic process slows down drastically when we rest. If there is food in our stomach that has not been fully digested by the time we go to bed, there is a strong possibility that food will be stored as fat! This means that all the hard work you did during the day may be negated by storage of fat at night! Are you skipping meals? If you skip any meals, you have a great chance of storing your next meal as fat. People who do not eat very often, “train” their bodies to believe it will not be eating for a while. Therefore, the body stores everything we give it for its future energy needs. In other words, the body stores much of what we eat as- .you guessed it, FAT! Do not put your body in a “starvation mode”; eat 3-5 very small (almost snacking) meals a day! This will boost your metabolism and allow your body to better burn off the things you eat. Here is an example: You get up in the morning get ready for work and rush out the door without eating breakfast. A hectic day leads to a late lunch at 12:30. You eat what you believe is a low fat, well-balanced meal. Now think about this, you have not eaten anything for around 18 hours (since dinner the night before). 18 hours, thats huge! And, believe me, your body knows this! So when you do eat, even if you do eat low fat, your body is going to store everything you eat, because you have trained it to know that there is a strong possibility it will not be refueled again for another 18 hours. Another thing to consider is that our bodies can only digest so much food at a time. Consider this: person A is eating 1500 calories a day and person B is also eating 1500 calories a day. Both person A and person B have the approximately the same body structures and chemical make-up. Person A eats 5 meals consisting of 300 calories per meal and person B eats 3 meals at 500 calories per meal. Person B puts a lot of stress on his body because his body has a hard time digesting 500 calories at a time while person As body has no problem digesting 300 calories at a time. For this reason, person B cant lose weight while person A does lose weight by eating the exact same amount ofcalories. The reason for this is person B usually stores a little of each meal as fat because his body just cant handle digesting 500 calories at a time.[500 & 300 calories were just examples used for simplicity] Are you exercising? This obviously has a great impact on weight loss. The more you exercise, the greater your metabolism is boosted! Also, what type of exercise are you doing? The best is to get 3 days of aerobic-type exercise (30-45 minutes per session) and then to get 3 days of weight lifting. Most women (and some men) do not want to lift weights because they dont want to look big and bulky. But getting big is very, very tough to do. With exercise, most people will end up just looking lean (this is good). The bottom line is that weight lifting is one of the absolute best ways to boost your metabolism and get your body to burn calories. THIS IS ABSOLUTELY TRUE! Plus, the more muscle you add to your body, the more calories you burn just sitting still. This is because one pound of muscle burns more calories than one pound of fat. Are you drinking lots of water? This aspect of weight loss is often under-looked. Drinking water is very, very important to weight loss. Many people are under the impressions that they “retain water” and this is the reason they are overweight. RUBBISH! Water is a major contributing factor in aiding the weight loss battle. Drinking plenty of water is a vital component for weight loss. How much weight are you trying to lose? The less weight you are trying to lose, the harder it may be. For example, if you are only trying to lose 5-15 pounds, every little thing you do will matter more to you than to someone who is trying to lose 50-100 pounds. As we get closer and closer to our ideal weight, our body tries very hard to hold on to those pounds. Now this doesn’t mean we should take it easy if 50-100 pounds is your weight loss goal. It just means that usually the last pounds are harder to bring off than the first ones. These are just a few of the topics you should look into, and obviously, these things vary from individual to individual. I also recommend for you to get a good multi-vitamin or antioxidant. The healthier your body is, the more efficiently it will get rid of those excess pounds. Also, educate yourself. There are about 10-15 very good health/fitness magazines out there to keep you well informed about fat loss, burning of calories, exercise programs and descriptions of what/when/why to eat.So learn, learn, learn, and as you build your knowledge base you will begin listening to your body and watching for signs that tell you “This works” or “This does not work”. Many people have a hard time losing weight, and this too is natural. It is the natural tendency of your body to hold on to extra calories and fat for future energy use. You have to shock it into losing. Thermogenic products like Max Ten, Max Fifty or Max Sports Fuel help significantly, but sometimes it takes that extra effort (the extra mile, the extra workout, one less soda a day) to get yourself moving in the right direction. Botox(r) - Fast And Effective But The Big Question Is “Is It Safe?”

June 19th, 2008 by sheileagheike

By Sher Matsen Women are constantly seeking products to look younger and often they are digging deep into their pocket books to try new products. Some have had laser treatments, some have spend exorbitant amounts on new face creams, some have tried holistic or natural approaches. Woman and I might add men are always on the quest for a more youthful appearance. Many have turned to Botox . What we know for certain is the Botox anti-aging treatment works. In 2003 in the US 8.3 million cosmetic procedures where done. Of that 8.3 million 78% of the procedures did not involve surgery such as injectables to ease wrinkles. Botox is the trade name for botulinum toxin A.What Botox does is paralyze muscles and soft tissue fillers which are derived from natural collagen and restore plumpness. Originally Botox was used to treat uncontrollable blinking. Doctors soon discovered the patients being treated for blinking were obtaining a more youthful appearance thus the future of Botox took a turn down the cosmetic road. The protein compound of Botox actually causes botulism which can result in paralysis. When it is injected into the skin the muscle stops contracting it causes the skin to relax and the wrinkle to soften. Botox works best on individuals who have deep set highly visible wrinkles. It is mostly used on the forehead, between the eyes, and on crow feet. It takes 3-5 days after the injection for the effects to occur which last 3-4 months. Some people are having Botox Parties where everyone gets together for cocktails and their Botox injection. We strongly recommend you do not partake in these parties. Seek medical advise if your are considering a Botox treatment. If you are thinking about a Botox treatment make certain your Doctor uses FDA approved Botox and only get treatments form a licensed Doctor. Dermatologists or Plastic Surgeons are the most expert in administering Botox so if either of these are an option I would recommend taking that route. Get a few recommendations for doctors and check each one out thoroughly. Check if they are board certified, get references if at all possible, schedule an appointment for a consultation which will give you a better indication if you are comfortable with your choice. Ask your doctor to show you before and after pictures of procedures he has done. Some of the potential problems that can occurSome people experience a pinching or burning sensation when the needle enters the skin. Ask your doctor for a numbing cream prior to your treatmentMinor post treatment headache may occurRed blotching can occur for around 15 -30 min. Wait to leave the doctors office until redness fades.Droopy eyelid results when there is seepage of Botox into the muscle that keeps the eye open. It can occur anywhere from immediately to two weeks after the injection. Some may experience an expressionless face. Use a lower dose of Botox next treatment BOTOX has been approved as an anti-wrinkle remedy by the American Food and Drug Administration (AFD). Since this is a public and federally funded institution, they are primarily concerned with public safety one would assume they would not approve BOTOX for general public usage without conducting all the sufficient and necessary tests to determine whether or not it is safe. The use of Botox is truly a personal choice and we recommend you do your research before making a decision. Copyright Sher Matsen, All Rights Reserved. Sport Fishing Kenya Tour - Big Game Fish: Sport Fish Kenya Fishing Tour

June 15th, 2008 by sheileagheike

By Robert Muhoho The marlin fish caught in Kenya big game sport fishing can weigh anywhere from a 100lb to well over 1000lb, indeed the heavies fish ever caught on rod and line in Kenyan waters was a 1,248lb blue marlin caught on march 1995 aboard the Kingfisher boat Neptune out of Malindi. This humongous great fish is displayed along with many other fish for all to admire on the walls of the Malindi Sea fishing Club (MSFC). The MSFC is a truly wonderful place, steeped in angling history, where not surprisingly the conversation is invariably of fish, fishing and fishermen, and where they make what is undoubtedly the finest prawn curry in the world! Nocturnal Broadbill sword fish There are barely a handful of destinations scattered around the world where that most elusive member of the billfish clan, the nocturnal broadbill swordfish is regularly caught; Kenya is probably the best, fishing for these elusive fish involves an overnight trip, which in itself is a wonderful experience. Broadbill are caught year round but the prime time is generally regarded as being January-March when the seas offshore are generally at their calmest. Boats target broadbill out of Malindi, Watamu and Shimoni, often on extended 30-hour trips to distant areas such a the legendary North Kenya Banks, and often it is during the daytime on these trips that anglers encounter outstanding sport marlin, large tuna and many other species. The giant Trevally In recent years the giant Trevally has become something of a cult angling species, and yet again Kenya offers the visiting angler an excellent chance of doing battle with this immensely powerful members of the jack family. Giant trevally, or GTs are commonly known to live over reefs and banks, often in large shoals of fish that can include individual specimens in excess of 100lb. A few years back it was the early part of the season that was considered prime GT time, but in recent years exceptional fishing has been experienced through out the entire season, almost certainly as a direct result of a significantly increased amount of angling effort specifically targeting trevally that these days are tagged and released. Over a dozen other species of trevally can be caught in Kenyan waters. The yellow fin tuna Tuna notably the yellow fin tuna found in such abundance off the coast of Kenya are one of the strongest fish in the sea; guaranteed to raise a sweat on the brow of even the fittest angler! School size yellow fin tuna, fish from 10-40lb, can be caught through out the season, usually in abundance and occasionally in such numbers that they can even become a nuisance when attempting to target other species, but at such times, you are guaranteed an action packed day followed by a plate of the finest sushi! The biggest yellow fin tuna, fish that in recent years have included specimens to over 220lb, have appeared in August and September, but be warned, fighting these brutally strong fish is certainly not for the unfit or faint hearted! Several other species of Tuna can also be caught in these waters including skip jack, long tail, big eye and kawa- kawa- the eastern little tunny that are widely referred to as bonito. Tiger and Mako sharks Many species of shark can be encountered off the Kenyan coast, but in recent years it is the fearsome tiger shark that has attracted most attention from anglers. A sizeable population of tiger sharks has been located off Watamu and when these fish are in feeding mode, which is more often than not, hooking one, can almost be described as a formality; successfully playing a hooked tiger shark to the boat to be tagged and released is entirely another matter! These wonderful apex predators average from 300-800lb but many 1,000lb plus specimen are caught, tagged and released each season. Giant bull sharks of similar proportions are also occasionally encountered and while mush rarer, the much prized mako shark is another species that is occasionally encountered by anglers fishing off Kenya. In addition to the major species listed above, a days offshore fishing in the Indian Ocean off the coast of East Africa will almost invariably produce many other species including highly sought after species such as the incredibly fast Wahoo, the gloriously coloured and sweet tasting dorado or felusi as its known in Swahili, and lets not forget the large snapper and grouper that can be caught fishing baits or lures near the bottom. Two species of barracuda, king mackerel-known as kingfish, cobia, rainbow runner and many others can all be encountered on a typical days fishing off Kenya. Journals of an avid angler I have fished in this wonderful; country for over 10 years, during which time Ive made some 16 trips to the coast averaging four-five days fishing per visit, thats around 70 days fishing off the Kenyan Coast. Sure Ive had a few quiet days but Ive never had a day when Ive caught nothing, while on other days Ive almost wished the fish would go off the feed to give me a rest! Each year I fish extensively around the would, frequently visiting exotic countries and enjoying world class sports fishing, but Kenya remains my all time ultimate angling destination. Ive said it before and Ill say it again, were I ever restricted to fishing just one week a year in tropical waters, then I would not hesitate in choosing Kenya as a destination. If nothing else, the prospects of a plate of curried prawns at the Malindi Sea Fishing Club and an icy cold beer or two would be sufficient to bring me back. To Attract Beautiful Women, Get Rid of These

June 7th, 2008 by sheileagheike

By Terry Hernon MacDonald If you want to meet a beautiful woman, it helps to look good. You can easily catch her eye by banishing three hideous items from your wardrobe: The T-shirt. Nobody ever looks smart in a T-shirt. It makes your neck look like a fire hydrant. Put on a collared shirt (a polo will do nicely), and youll instantly be perceived as more successful, intelligent, and desirable. The sneakers. What’s the point of wearing a decent shirt if your feet look like marshmallows? Leave the sneakers at the ball field, even if you’re at a bar to watch a game. Its not necessary to dress like a shortstop to communicate the fact that you like sports. The baseball cap. Ugh. Yes, guys wear them everywhere from restaurants to casinos to church, but know this: They are the ultimate turn-off. It doesn’t matter if youre bald or gray or both. Bald (minus the comb-over, please) can be good. Gray can be good. But a cap is never good. Unless you’re standing on a baseball diamond, take it off. From now on, think of the offending headgear as the male equivalent of the middle-aged woman’s best friend, the poly-pant. This is no exaggeration. Married women have been known to fend off sexual fantasies about men — other than their husbands — by imagining them wearing baseball caps. Do yourself a favor. Don’t wear one. Drop the Hideous Three from your wardrobe, and you’ll do wonders for your love life. You dont need to be tall, dark, and handsome to attract a beautiful woman. Dressing comfortably, confidently, and neatly will usually do it. Better Worship - 12 Marks of an Effective Music Ministry

June 1st, 2008 by sheileagheike

By Ken Davis Small Beginnings My first experience in music ministry happened fairly soon after I first picked up a guitar at 15 years of age. I knew about 20 chords and could play a few songs from a new songbook titled Scripture in Song. Fortunately most of the songs were in guitar-friendly keys. There were four of us who played guitar in a small country Baptist church. I know one song we dreaded was “Rise and Shine” (’God said to Noah theres gonna be a floody floody’). The chords were simple, but the strumming rhythm was a real wrist breaker. After church we would retire to one of our homes and listen to the latest Larry Norman or Randy Stonehill album, and try to work out the chords and guitar licks. As Bryan Adams sang, ‘I played it till my fingers bledthose were the best days of my life’. The songs were simple and wed try and embellish them with influences from progressive rock bands like Pink Floyd and Yes. However there’s a limit to what you can do with a $20 nylon string guitar. Sometimes this went down well. At other times some of the elders would warn us of the dangers of getting so caught up in the music that we forgot the main game. In their quirky country ways, they had a point. In the years since then I have enjoyed being part of many different music teams. My studies meant I moved around a fair bit, so I was part of a number of churches. Some were well resourced and it was a struggle to get to do what I loved, whereas others were small and welcomed whatever help they got. Unrealistic Models When the Willow Creek team first came to Australia I witnessed what was possible with a dynamic, creative and well-resourced team. However, my frustration was that the models of music ministry I was seeing presented by big, well-resourced, upper middle class churches was simply not achievable in the majority of churches. This sparked my interest in training and developing churches without these kinds of resources. The problem was to distil from 20 years of experience ‘what things really mattered’. What were the issues that could make or break a music ministry, whether in a mega church or a church struggling to survive as demographic change followed its course? What can work anywhere? Since then I’ve had the privilege of speaking with hundreds of music ministers and team members here in Australia and from overseas. From those conversations, these are what I believe are the 12 “biggies” for creating an effective music ministry. Notice that I said effective, not “successful”. Many people equate success with big budgets and large teams. An effective music ministry can be one talented and gifted person doing what they do in harmony with their church and surrounding community. So here they are: 1. Music is valued as a gracious gift from God, given for our enjoyment, as well as being a strategic tool for strengthening believers and reaching unbelievers. 2. The ministry team should have a biblical understanding of the nature of worship, music, church and Christian experience. 3. Music ministry takes place in the context of a church with a shared understanding of its purpose and mission. 4. The music team are servants with a clear understanding and a passionate commitment to the part they play in that mission. 5. The music ministry is a team who:work together towards common goals.love and support one another.deal biblically and appropriately with conflict.have clear, mutually agreed, written standards explaining what is expected of members.receive regular training and teaching in theology, practical musicianship and teamwork.6. Music takes place in the context of prayerfully and carefully planned services with an emphasis on cultural relevance, excellence, biblical content, personal authenticity and vulnerability. 7. Music team leaders are involved in the planning and programming of services and special events. 8. The repertoire is regularly and systematically reviewed to:assess its content, ease of singing and relevance.evaluate and recommend new songs before they enter the repertoire.9. The music ministry has adequate financial support within the churchs existing resources. 10. Human resources are used effectively and supplemented by appropriate use of technology such as CD’s, DVD’s MIDI or backing tracks where required. 11. The church supports and encourages local and “lesser known” writers by using their material where possible and helping them to develop skills and access training opportunities. 12. The music ministry obeys the letter and the spirit of the law regarding copyright and performance rights. A helpful tool I’ve distilled these into a quick assessment you can use to see where you and your church are at in terms of ministry. You can download this assessment as a PDF document here. It will give you 60 quick ideas to improve your music ministry. http://www.insideoutmusic.net/cgi-bin/ar/ad.cgi?EZA Ken Davis is a songwriter, guitarist and music producer who also sings badly. Buying an RV - The Dealer is Not the Enemy

May 29th, 2008 by sheileagheike

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Barry_Wilder]Barry Wilder Statistics show that the 80/20 rule applies to RV sales profits. That means that approximately 80% of all RV’s sold will make a dealer an acceptable profit. How much is that? I can tell you it is measured in the thousands of dollars. I know… I’ve been in the RV business for years and years. How about the other 20%? Most of them will fall into the area of “just under the acceptable range”. But, they are still paying the dealer several thousand dollars in profit. Actually, only about 3% of RV sales made in 2004 were at a profit margin that would be considered totally unacceptable to the dealer. In other words, the customer won… and won BIG! Yea, yea… As I said, I’ve been in the business for years. Salesman, Manager… Owner. Trust me - I’ve seen it all. Why am I telling you this? I’m really mad. As angry as I have ever been about anything. I get calls everyday from friends and clients who have been burned over and over again by fast buck “Slick Willie” salesmen selling a load of bull and using high pressure tactics. There are just too many “Big City Dealers” anymore, who are tarnishing the heck out of the business my family and I have worked so hard to keep clean and simple. My sales people have always been taught to be courteous, helpful, and most of all professional. They return phone calls, they send thank you notes and they treat each and every customer with respect. They also are taught two basic principles: 1. Make a reasonable profit. We have earned it and we deserve it. We have to pay the rent, utilities, salaries, commissions, etc. So by all means, make us a reasonable profit. 2. Sell RV’s. Always try to make a reasonable profit, but if you can’t… at least try to make some profit. A little of something is better than a whole lot of nothing. It’s really very easy to save a substantial amount on the purchase of your next RV. If, and only if you know exactly what to do. Many people walk into a dealership with the impression that they are going into battle. They bristle with resistance as the salesman introduces himself, and begins the cat and mouse game of “I can sell you… No you can’t”. The salesman is asking qualifying questions, to hopefully keep from walking all over the lot and showing each and every RV. You are simply trying to see the different styles, options, colors, models, etc. It is a tug of war… But it doesn’t have to result in all out war. Obviously the dealer, as the individual or business that has shelled out literally millions of dollars to provide a good inventory of recreational vehicles, has the right to regulate the flow of potential customers through his doors. He also has the right to dictate what type of methods his sales people use. When people walk through the doors of the dealership, many salesman, like a cop in a bad movie, will subconsciously read you your RV Miranda Rights. “You have the right to remain ignorant. Anything you say can and will be used against you in the sales office. You have the right to speak to your spouse, and to have your spouse present during any negotiating. If you cannot afford an RV, one will be financed for you at 3% over buy rate.” This is the mentality of many, many RV dealers and sales people across the country. They will use any means possible to sell you an RV from their inventory, and their lot. They will use a multitude of tricks and strategies to “help” you buy on your first visit. They will give you reasons to buy NOW! You, as the consumer also have a set of rights that you should go over mentally as you walk through the doors of any dealership. 1. You have the right to be knowledgeable. Anything you have learned can be used against the pressure tactics of any unscrupulous salesperson or greedy sales manager. 2. You have the right to take your time. Although you do have the right to know how to use urgency to your advantage. 3. You have the right to know the wholesale and retail book value of your trade in, as well as the RV you are buying. 4. If you finance your RV, you have the right to choose your own source for RV Loans, and the best interest rate and terms possible. 5. If you choose to purchase an RV Warranty, you have the right to a fair price and a reputable company. Clearly, the dealer is entitled to a some profit. Without it he could never survive. Many dealers make HUGE profits on the RV’s they sell. Your job as a consumer, is to make sure that he pays the rent on the next buyer… Not you. You are your own worst enemy… Most people never take the time and/or money to learn. They don’t realize that when they walk into the dealership and sit down, they have taken a knife to a gun fight. Dealerships spend thousands of dollars training their sales people to make a good profit on each and every person they work with. Yet still, the vast majority of buyers never take the time to really learn how to buy an RV at little or no profit for the dealer. Unfortunately there is very little good information out there on the subject of RV related SAVINGS! There are plenty of books on how to use your RV, fix your RV, and travel in your RV. There are even some books on the subject of buying an RV. But all of them combined provide very little real-world, down and dirty secrets. I have read every book that is available on the subject and find all of them very lacking in good advice. If you are only armed with the advice in these manuals, a good salesman will eat your lunch every time. Not only must you be able to buy your RV very near the dealer’s cost, you must be skilled in evaluating the quality, or lack of it, in the various makes and models you have to choose from. One important thing to consider is the issue of trade-in. Should you put forth the effort to sell your own RV before you purchase another one? Effort, is the key word. If you put in the effort, you deserve to keep the profits of your labors. If you trade in your RV, the dealer will be the one who puts forth the effort to sell your unit. He will be the one to make interest payments on it while it sits on his lot. He will incur the advertising expense, sales commissions, etc. He will also have to fix any defects or problems as well as providing a warranty on the unit for a minimum of 30 days. In other words, don’t expect to get full retail for your trade-in. It doesn’t happen… Ever. People ask me time and time again: “When is the best time to buy an RV?” My answer is always the same. “Anytime…” They then typically reply: “No, I mean is Winter the best time? Or maybe at the RV Shows? What about the end of the month, I’ve heard that is the best time of month…” The truth of the matter is this. RV dealers need to sell RVs all year long. Some sales make a lot, some sales make a little. Your job is to make sure you have the skills to play the game effectively. As long you armed with the proper tools, and by that I mean information and knowledge, you should be able to negotiate a deal that is fair to both individual and dealer. No matter what time of year, remember… Information is power. Use it to your advantage. Do your homework. Research various models and dealer pricing. Leave your checkbook at home until you are ready to make an offer. Remember the value of the Internet and the ease of shopping it offers. And remember… Be kind to your local RV dealer. He is the one most likely to be servicing and repairing your RV. A few dollars more - spent locally… Are wisely spent. Barry Wilder has been associated with his family RV business for over 25 years. Fighting Breast Cancer Through Weight Loss

May 26th, 2008 by sheileagheike

By Hannah Jones Breast cancer is the most common form of cancer women have to face during their lives. Worldwide, approximately one out of every nine women develops breast cancer and this condition is the second most fatal cancer for women, after lung cancer. The usual suspects in such cases are ancestry, exposure to ionizing radiation and xenoestrogens that cause mutations in the DNA, while decreasing the bodys capacity to repair the damage. However, there are other things that act as promoters of the disease, such as age, alcohol, artificial light and obesity. Although many people would not think it possible, gaining weight, especially after the menopause, has a tremendous influence on the risk of developing breast cancer. An international team of scientists has recently found that losing 10 pounds between the ages of 18 and 30 lowers the risk of cancer by as much as 65%, while gaining 10 pounds increases the risk of developing cancer after the age of 40. The international study was conducted on a group of 2,000 women carrying the BRCA1 and 2 genes and focused on their weight at the ages of 18, 30 and 40. What scientists found was that women who lost weight, especially after having given birth to children, had better chances of avoiding the mutation of genes that causes breast cancer. Another important study has focused on the diet of women after breast cancer surgery. According to this study, women who had followed a low-fat diet saw a 24 percent decrease on average in the risk of breast cancer recurrence. The biggest boon went to women suffering from estrogen receptor negative cancer, who saw a 42 percent drop in the risk of recurrence. For this reason doctors and oncology experts advise women to keep an eye on their weight, because letting things go out of hand could turn out to have fatal consequences later on. A low-fat diet, plenty of exercise and healthy foods are one of the best ways women can make life easier for themselves. A normal body weight helps fight cancer, diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease and other conditions. Staying lean through the years is not that hard, despite the fact that the common urban lifestyle does not encourage this. Obesity is a bigger and bigger threat to men and women alike and some health authorities have begun to speak of it as an epidemic. Across the world, more and more people perform far too little physical effort compared to the daily intake of calories and more and more people are declared clinically obese every year. You can stop this trend in your life. Its enough to go outside more often and to be careful about what you eat. Yes, its that simple. How To Write Effective Headlines For Your Web Site

May 18th, 2008 by sheileagheike

By Jim Gratiot Attention Small Business Owners: Headlines are everything! Whether youre mailing a sales letter, placing a yellow page ad, or trying to sell through your web site, you need a compelling, grab-your-reader-by-the-lapels headline. Now, if I told you everything you needed to know about writing headlines, this article would be about 187 pages long. However, here are some basic tips for writing an effective headline for your web site: 1. Target your audience. If youre trying to sell to bass fishermen, dont have a headline that says Attention fishermen. Try Attention Bass Fishermen. Even better would be Attention New Jersey Bass Fishermen And even better yet: Attention New Jersey Bass Fishermen! If youre over 65 years old and you love fishing in the Delaney River And so on. The more specific your headline is, the more likely that the right people will read it and respond to it. 2. Dont try to be cute or clever. Avoid puns at all cost. Your headline should serve only one purpose: to identify people who are interested in your product or service and to induce those people to read the rest of your site. 3. Have a news slant. For instance, Local Doctor Introduces Pillow That Increases Circulation. Read your local newspaper for inspiration. 4. Include the main benefit of your product or service in your headline. Once you have specifically identified your target audience, you need to let them know exactly what benefit they will gain from buying your product or service. 5. Make your headline stand out. Use a font that is larger than your main text. Use color that makes the words in your headline stand out. You will want to experiment with this, however there is a fine line between standing out and being obnoxious. 6. Be concise. There has been an ugly epidemic recently of headlines on the Internet that are 30, 40, even 70 words long. This defeats the purpose of having a headline. Instead, shoot for around 12 to 15 tightly crafted words that will lead the reader directly into the rest of your site. 7. Be truthful. Although none of your web content should ever be misleading its more profitable long term to sell a good product honestly it is particularly important that your headline is not deceiving. Dont say Sexy, Sexy, Sexy if you are selling Organic Mouthwash or Automotive Supplies. Look, the best way to learn how to write a great headline is to read as many great headlines as you can. Go to your bookstore and look at the womens magazines. Read the National Enquirer. These people are pros at writing knock-em-dead headlines that make people sit up and take notice. And with practice, your headlines will make your customers sit up and take notice too. Jim Gratiot is a professional copywriter and marketing strategist. Private Practice Marketing Secrets - Top 7 Benefits of Exhibiting at Conferences

May 9th, 2008 by sheileagheike

By Jeff Herring Exhibiting at a conference is a private practice marketing skill that can be learned and used just like all the rest of the skills. Here are a few of the clear and powerful benefits of exhibiting at a conference. Benefit #1 - You are seen as the expert No matter your area of expertise, when you exhibit at a conference you are seen as the expert. Just by being there, setting up your booth, and talking with people, you are preceived as an expert in your field. Benefit #2 - Awesome networking opportunity Networking is one of the top three ways, along with speaking and writing, to get new clients. At a conference, you can network with presenters, colleagues, and your ideal clients. It’s a three-in-one big win! Benefit #3 - You get to stretch yourself Exhibiting and networking may not be your most comfortable thing. That’s fine. Here is a little secret but you can’t tell anyone - I’m basically a shy person - I’ve just made the decisions over years and years to stretch myself to grow in ways that have been to my benefit. You can too, and this in a great opportunity to do so. Benefit #4 - Prospects, Prospects, Prospects You can come away from a conference with more new prospects than you know what to do with. Talk to people, make the first move. Have a really great “gem” to give to prospects, such as a free CD. As prospects walk by your exhibit booth, hand them your CD and ask “Do you have one of my free CDs on (your niche) yet?” You then give them one in exchange for filling out a form that signs them up for your newsletter or free ecourse. You’ll walk away with more prospects that you can imagine. Benefit #5 - Great professional contacts Other professionals will be exhibiting at the conference too. They may be directly related professionals in your niche, or they may represent other services that your ideal client may want to use as well. Connect with them. I’ve made professional contacts, created long term referral sources, and have even begun joint ventures as a result of making contact with fellow exhibitors. Benefit #6 - Refines your laser speech Because you may have only a few short seconds to speak to prospects, you learn to refine your laser speech down to the bare essential and compelling information. You also learn to design a laser speech of varying lengths, because sometimes you have just a few seconds, somethimes just a few minutes, sometimes longer. Benefit #7 - You put yourself out there You have heard of the law of attraction, yes? The law of attraction is what is working for you when you put your self out there. Whether you are speaking, exhibiting or simply attending a conference or seminar, you have an opportunity for all of the above benefits. And more. There is something magical about the things that come your way when you put yourself out there. I could easily spend another 30 minutes giving example after example from my own life, but that is another article.
